The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development
To mark the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, international volunteer Annalena from Svitac (Firefly in Bosnia) held a workshop that was inspiring and thoughtful. The discussions helped us better understand how deeply culture shapes our lives — from politics and history to music, art, language, and everyday traditions. One of the most meaningful parts of the workshop was reflecting on the importance of dialogue, mutual understanding, and respect between different cultures. We explored the differences between culture, subculture, and counterculture, while also sharing our own experiences and perspectives on what culture means to us personally.
The workshop encouraged open conversations about how cultural identities continue to evolve and why celebrating diversity is so important in today’s world. It reminded us that cultural diversity is not only something to appreciate, but also something that strengthens communities and brings people closer together. We also spoke about the Carnival of Cultures, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year in Berlin — a powerful example of multiculturalism, inclusion, and the vibrant diversity that makes the city unique.
