OUR VOLUNTEERING AT SVITAC (FIREFLY IN BOSNIA) – Volunteering story in Bosnia
In March, we traveled from Turkey to Brčko, Bosnia and Herzegovina, for a volunteering project. This journey was possible thanks to the European Solidarity Corps and our organization, Uluslararası Genç Arayış Derneği (@ugardorg).
During our stay, we worked at the Omladinska organizacija Svitac (Firefly in Bosnia). It was a great experience to be part of this community. We helped with daily activities for children and teenagers. We played games, did creative crafts, and talked about different social topics. Every day was full of energy, and we were very happy to be a part of Svitac (Firefly in Bosnia).
The best part of this experience was meeting new people. Everyone in Brčko was very kind and friendly. They shared their culture, food, homes, and stories with us. We felt at home from the first day. Even though we come from different countries, we found many things in common.
This project helped us a lot. We improved our English, learned how to work with different age groups, and became more confident. We also learned how to adapt to a new city and a new culture.
In our free time, we explored Brčko. We walked by the river, visited local cafés, and met new friends. We loved the peaceful atmosphere of Brčko. We also saw that we have a very similar food culture. We noticed that “burek”, coffee, and “manti” are very similar in both cultures.
In short, this was a wonderful experience for both of us. We learned, laughed, and made great memories. We recommend this volunteering project to everyone who wants to see new places and meet new friends. We will miss you, Brčko! 😊.
