Summer Camps and Children’s Day: A Week of great joy, learning and friendship
From August 24th to 28th, the Youth Centre in Brčko came alive with creativity, music, curiosity, and laughter as three exciting summer camps brought children together for a week full of discovery and fun. The week culminated in a joyful celebration of Children’s Day on August 29th, making the experience even more special.
These camps were about much more than having fun — although there was certainly plenty of it! They offered children an opportunity to learn new skills, explore different cultures, express themselves creatively, and build new friendships. Each day brought a new adventure, with engaging workshops where art, music, languages, imagination, and teamwork came together in a lively and inspiring atmosphere.
Through play and creative learning, children discovered new ways to communicate, cooperate, and share their ideas, creating memories and connections that went far beyond the camp itself.
Creative Camp
This year’s camp was all about peace, creativity, and understanding. Through a variety of imaginative activities, children explored what peace means to them and how they can contribute to a more peaceful world. They created beautiful Trees of Peace, Peace Boxes, and Bridges of Peace, while learning useful phrases and simple ways to prevent and resolve conflicts.
Their imagination took them even further with “Planets of Peace,” where they designed their own new planets and worlds built around the idea of peace, cooperation, and friendship. As a final creative goal, the children created a Museum of Peace, bringing together their artworks, ideas, and messages in a special exhibition at the Children’s Day event.
With the support of enthusiastic local and international volunteers, the camp became a space where children could express themselves, exchange ideas, learn from different cultures, and discover that peace can be created through small actions, creativity, communication, and understanding.
Music Camp
The week was full of energetic beat of drums and the joyful sound of young voices filling the halls of the Youth center! Throughout the five-day camp, big group of children explored rhythm, singing, and musical creativity. They took part in drumming sessions, experimented with different beats, and worked together to create their own rhythms and a unique musical piece. The singing group prepared two special songs for the final performance — one originally written by a Svitac volunteer, and the other, “Zemlja,” by the band EKV. Together, the songs brought a meaningful message and a beautiful sense of togetherness. All the creativity, teamwork, and musical energy came together during the final performance on Children’s Day, where the children proudly shared what they had created throughout the camp.
Language camp
The language camp gave children a fun and interactive introduction to English, German, and Spanish. Through quizzes, games, music, and interactive speaking activities, they learned useful everyday words and phrases while building confidence in communicating in different languages. For Children’s Day, the participants proudly presented what they had learned, showcasing posters with their most important phrases and even sharing a special musical moment, as one participant performed a song in Spanish.
Children’s Day – August 29th
The grand finale was a truly special celebration. Families, friends, and community members came together to enjoy the children’s exhibition and performances, creating an atmosphere full of joy and pride. With face painting, Bingo surprises, colorful balloons and plenty of laughter, the day was filled with excitement as the children proudly shared what they had learned and created throughout the week.
The Summer Camps and Children’s Day have become a cherished tradition in Brčko — a space where learning meets fun, cultures come together, and children have the opportunity to shine. What started as a single event continues to grow into a meaningful community tradition that connects people and empowers young minds. We look forward to another summer filled with creativity, music, art, languages, new friendships, and unforgettable memories.
