International Day Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism 2023

Svitac (Firefly in Bosnia) observed on the 9th November International Day Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism with groups of high school students.

The workshop was focused on the Antifa movement in Germany, its goals and actions. The purpose was to expose young people to various forms of antifascism and antifascist activity. There was a discussion on the history of the name Antifa, as well as its goals and methods (“Outings”, demonstrations…). The participants investigated “caravan communes” and “squatting” to learn about the political concepts underlying such actions, what the “Anti-Antifa” is, and that some antifascists in Germany are willing to use violence to prevent fascists from spreading their ideology. Student groups also have watched a video showing the reactions of the left scene in Germany to evictions and how the police act in those.

Finally, participants discovered how much effort certain people put in to prevent fascists and neo-Nazis from gaining power, as well as how they do it.
