Zero Discrimination Day 2020
On 1st of March UN proclaimed “Zero Discrimination Day”. On this day people celebrate worldwide the right of everyone to live a full and productive life and to live it with dignity.
Zero Discrimination Day highlights how people can become informed about and promote inclusion, compassion, peace and, above all a movement for change. Zero Discrimination Day is helping to create a global movement of solidarity to end all forms of discrimination.
Svitac (Firefly Bosnia) held a workshop on this topic. Participants 4 to 6 years were speaking about people who have physical disabilities (people who are blind, not able to speak or deaf). They were learning how those people can communicate and live their daily life. For people who are mute and deaf, participants learned in a sign language Makaton the signs for peace, love and ‘we are friends’. They’ve learned about dogs who are specially trained to help blind people.
In the second part, there were few exercises where they were blindfolded and had to draw a flower, blind maze: one participant had a blindfold and other participant had to help him go through the maze. The last example was with headphones where one child was wearing them and others were silently trying to tell something and the word needed to be guessed. This was hard because there was music through headphones.
The workshop was held in the Youth centre of Brcko District.
