World Refugee Day

The UN General Assembly declared in 2001 the 20th of June “World Refugee Day”, which is now celebrated internationally.

Svitac (Firefly Bosnia) held a storytelling workshop for children aged 4-7, about animal friends in a deep forest who had to leave their home, because a bad badger came with his friends and wanted the whole forest just for himself. The story had a happy end. All little friends have found a new home in a new forest with a lake. The storytelling was adapted to their young age. At the end of the workshop, they were asked to draw one personal item, they would take with them on a journey. We also discussed helping other people and children, who have no home and sharing our food and clothes with them.

Four young people from Brčko and Svitac’s (Firefly Bosnia’s) members have written letters and have expressed their thoughts and emotions about World Refugee Day. You can read their letters here: https://fireflybosnia.org/the-cruel-reality-for-refugees/
