WORLD REFUGEE DAY 2024

June 20 is designated as World Refugee Day in an effort to bring attention to the precarious circumstances that face those who are being forced to flee their homes across the globe.

Participants in Svitac (Firefly in Bosnia) marked this day with ages 8+ and 15+. Jonathan spoke to a group of youth about the history of World Refugee Day, the global agenda for 2024, and the tools that can be used in this matter. The group also discussed finding solutions for the refugee crisis, remaining open-minded, and showing solidarity.

Internally Displaced People, or IDPs, were another topic of discussion in the group.

We also talked to children aged 8 and older about this topic. The conversation style was tailored to their age, and they discussed their experiences with things they’d seen on TV or in their own town or area. They also expressed a desire to make a colourful poster with a house and children surrounding it, with the symbolic message: “Home should be a safe place for all of us!”
The workshop was held on the premises of the Youth Centre Brcko District.
