World Refugee Day 2023

World Refugee Day is celebrated on June 20 to raise awareness of the difficult situation facing people around the world who are being forced to leave their homes.

Svitac (Firefly in Bosnia) marked this day with participants aged 8+ with an adapted working and methodical method. Two girls who had to flee their homes due to war conflict were the subject of a video that our participants watched. Currently, both are in BiH, going to school and learning the language. After the video, we talked to the participants and asked them what they would like these two girls to have while living in a foreign country, and then to draw it. In the end, we got two beautiful posters featuring illustrations of joyful kids having fun at school and on the playground, as well as a home full of happy families.

The message of the workshop is symbolic – we concluded with the participants that everyone should have a place to live and that no one has the right to take away their living space, or home or separate them from friends and family.

The workshop was held on the premises of the Youth Centre Brcko District.
