World Day of Social Justice 2018
In celebration of the World Social Justice Day on February 20th, Omladinska organizacija Svitac (Firefly) offered creative workshops with two groups of participants (4-7 years old and 8+). The main objective was to promote the important aspects of social justice, including stability and security, respect, equality and teamwork. The workshops were held in the Youth Centre of Brčko District, for the first group from 11am to 1pm, and the second group from 2 to 3:30pm.
The younger participants had the opportunity to color a worksheet that illustrated two children playing happily with a ball in a safe environment, and participants were also taught what the term “social justice” means. They had the opportunity to answer questions about how they feel when they see that some of their friends do not have warm clothes or shoes, or in fact do not have their own room or bed. The last part of the workshop was divided into three stations, where they played social games in order to see equality for all through simple rules of the game.
The afternoon group had the opportunity to see a short video clip adapted to their age with the theme of the workshop. It was very positive that the participants actively participated in the discussion on the topic of how social justice in BiH is represented, how citizens behave towards marginalized groups, and how justice/injustice affect their lives. Together they concluded that good things should be done on a daily basis to help the world get better.
At the end of the workshop, the participants created a poster on which they painted how they see social justice in their country.
