World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development 2024
The United Nations proclaimed the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development to celebrate the richness of the world’s cultures and the essential role of intercultural dialogue in achieving peace and sustainable development.
Svitac (Firefly in Bosnia) discussed cultural differences in celebration customs, food, and clothes with our youngest participants. Our Scottish volunteer Orla presented Scotland and discussed Nessie (Loch Ness monster). The participants enjoyed the story and the presentation a lot! We also discussed the world’s famous architecture such as the Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum in Rome, Big Ben in London, and Old Bridge in Mostar (BiH). The group has created a banner with cultural diversity from the whole world.
With participants 16+, we talked about pop-culture in the USA and the TV series “Friends” and how some of the less obvious meanings hidden beneath the comedic value are relevant to our daily lives.
The activities were held at the premises of the Brčko District Youth Centre.
