World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development 2021

The United Nations proclaimed the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development to celebrate the richness of the world’s cultures and the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development.

Omladinska organizacija Svitac (Firefly Bosnia) marked this day with international volunteers from Great Britain and Turkey with two activities. In the introductory part, we learned dance steps with the youngest participants. Volunteers from Turkey talked about Cappadocia, a part of Turkey known for its tourist attraction – flying balloons. With them, we made our hot air balloon and flew to Cappadocia and enjoyed a beautiful sunny day.

Art is a great way to create dialogue. At Svitac we talked about the environment during an art project. We created paints using natural materials such as beetroot (red), spinach (green), charcoal (black) and turmeric spice (yellow). This led to a dialogue about the paints we normally use which contain chemicals that are harmful to the environment.

The activities were held at the premises of the Brčko District Youth centre.
