The International Day of Non-Violence 2022

The International Day of Non-Violence is celebrated on October 2nd, the day Mahatma Gandhi was born, one of the leaders of the Indian independence movement and the founder of the philosophy and strategy of nonviolent resistance.

Svitac (Firefly in Bosnia) has marked this day with our 4+ and 15+ participants at a creative and discussion workshop. With the youngest participants, we started the workshop with a discussion about violence in general and watched an educative video adapted to their age. The video was about how to fight peer violence in schools and kindergarten and how to develop empathy.

Local and international volunteers have also prepared a big poster with an image of a group of dark silhouettes symbolizing violence and a small child in front of them offering flowers. The children helped to decorate the poster with their drawings. The group of young people (15+) has gathered to discuss this topic in general and to talk about violence in our society and daily life and how to fight against it.

The workshop was held on the premises of the Youth Centre Brčko District.
