The European Day of Languages
Omladinska organizacija Svitac (Firefly) observed The European Day of Languages, which is celebrated on the 26th of September, based on the initiative of the Council of Europe.
Two creative workshops were organized for two groups of participants. The aim of the workshops was to promote the importance of all languages and cultures, throughout Europe. At the workshop for ages 4 to 7 years, there was a demonstration of communication without the use of words. Then, the participants listened to a song, adapted to their age, under the name “Hello! Around the World” where they had the opportunity to hear a greeting in 15 different languages. At the end of the workshop, the participants sang the “Vjeverica”, which was accompanied with the sign language “Makaton” along with the text.
The afternoon group had the chance to learn about the number of languages spoken, in Europe, and the languages spoken by our international volunteers, from America, Turkey, Holland, and Germany. The activities that followed were learning specific phrases in languages spoken by international volunteers, for video that they made during the workshop.
All activities were held on the premises of the Youth Centre in Brčko District.
