ON-GOING PROGRAMME

  • Culture and Art Diversity around the World – includes Language, Art&Crafts, Music, Drama, and Sports workshops from Monday to Friday
    • Standard Language workshops – English, and German
      • English – standard English language workshops for teenagers and young people
      • German – standard German language workshops for teenagers and young people
    • Conversational Language workshops – English, German, French, Italian
      • I love English – conversational English workshops for teenagers and young people
      • “Lasst uns Deutsch sprechen!/Pricajmo njemacki!“ (“Let’s speak German”) – conversational German workshops for teenagers and young people
      • Let’s speak French – conversational French workshops for teenagers and young people
    • Art&Crafts workshops – practical arts and crafts workshops for children and teenagers
    • Music workshops – samba, guitar, music workshops for children and young people
    • Drama Klub – for teenagers and young people
    • Sports workshops – for teenagers and young people
  • Local language lessons for international volunteers

 

HIGHLIGHTS ON MONTH’S ACTIVITIES

  • This month was nice and creative as usual. About 123 participants regularly attended Svitac’s activities in September. Participants were aged between 4 and 40 years old. The youngest and the oldest participants attended Culture and Art Diversity around the World workshops and English/German workshops for adults.
    • Younger group – They made leaf crowns and lots of animals (seal masks, fans, fish and fishing rods), painted with ice cubes, rocks and paper rolls with strings, learned numbers 3, 4 and 5, and more about sea and farm animals. A highlight with the younger group was learning an under the sea themed song, playing along with different percussion instruments and pretending to be the sea animals.
    • Older group – They made a big “Under the sea” poster with sea animals, colored wooden boxes for jewelry and made animals out of leaves. In the Language Workshops, the group was learning sea animals and their names in English, they did worksheets and matching, also crosswords. They also had to match animals with their habitats. During the month, they mostly learned new terms and expressions and during the autumn themed week, they learned words concerning autumn and played different games to revise the vocabulary. In the Music Workshops the group learned songs by Queen “We are the champions” and Beatles “Yellow submarine”, also song in local “U svijetu postoji jedno carstvo”.
    • For the 21st September, International Peace Day, children made posters and doves. The younger group made doves out of paper, by drawing and cutting the outline of their hands and attaching it to the bird’s body as wings. The older group made two posters, one with the picture of a dove holding an olive branch and the other with a peace sing. Both groups were asked questions about peace (what does it mean, what does dove represent, why is it important).
    • A teacher at Catherine Rolley’s old school in the UK has expressed an interest in a Skype exchange of knowledge. Catherine, Svitac EVS volunteer, is currently working on a plan for this project but she believes it will fit in best with the younger group when they usually do their dance or singing mini performances. She would like to develop a series of performances or a larger performance which will result in aknowledge or skills exchange with Svitac students and Highshore students.
  • Filming and Testimonials – The international volunteer Monica Reeves kept working on this project in collaboration with other Svitac volunteers.

 

EVS, WELTWARTS AND OTHER VOLUNTEERS’ PROGRAMMES

  • In September, Svitac very much appreciated collaborating with 6 international volunteers: one ‘weltwarts’ volunteer from Germany and five EVS volunteers from the UK and Germany.
  • Sending EVS – Two volunteers from Bosnia doing their EVS service in Cyprus (9 months) and Lithuania (12 months positions).
  • The EVS re-accreditation process is still ongoing.
  • Visa process is ongoing for 2 international volunteers (arrived in September).

 

MEETINGS and PRESENTATIONS

  • Svitac representatives continued to attend regular monthly meetings with the youth centre coordinator and the other NGOs based in Brcko. The purpose of the last meeting was to share information about activities and plans for September and discuss activities scheduled to take place in the youth centre.
