HIGHLIGHTS ON MONTH’S ACTIVITIES

  • This month was exciting and sad at the same time because of welcoming new Svitac (Firefly) volunteers and saying goodbye to volunteers who spent last year with us. The school started again and brought a new schedule and obligations to everyone: Svitac (Firefly) participants and the team. International volunteers have also been doing a lot of different daily activities and they focused on different things (fundraising, promotion of the organization through social media etc.).
  • About 125 participants regularly attended Svitac’s (Firefly’s) activities in September, reconfirming their popularity in our small Brcko District community. Participants were aged between 4 and 40 years old. The youngest and the oldest participants attended Culture and Art Diversity around the World workshops and English/German workshops for adults.
    • Younger group – They made paper books and pencils (as a symbol of the first day of school), rabbits, frogs, apples and worms. They learned to write and pronounce letters I, J, L in local language, and new words in English and German related to seasons, animals, and weather. They learned the song „If you happy and you know it“, in local and in English. Highlight with the younger group was workshop for the International Peace Day when they learned, on creative way, about peace, love and care for others.
    • Older group – They made origami, pencil boxes, peacocks, and hand bags. In the Language Workshops, the group learned new words related to seasons, animals, weather in English, German and Turkish. In the Music Workshops the group learned about rhythm and rhythmic music, and repeated some old songs. The highlights with the older group were activities organised for European Language Day and International Peace Day when they had discussion about peace and what it means to them.

EVS, WELTWARTS AND OTHER VOLUNTEERS’ PROGRAMMES

  • In September, Svitac (Firefly) very much appreciated collaborating with 6 international volunteers: two ‘Weltwearts’ volunteers from Germany, three EVS volunteers from Macedonia and Turkey and one self-funded volunteer from USA.
  • Visa process has been started for three EVS and weltwearts volunteers from Macedonia and Germany.
  • Sending EVS and ‘Weltwearts’ – One volunteer from Bosnia is doing his ‘weltwearts’ service in Germany (12 months).

MEETINGS and PRESENTATIONS

  • Svitac (Firefly) representatives continued to attend regular monthly meetings with the youth centre coordinator and the other NGOs based in Brcko. The purpose of the last meeting was to share information about activities and plans for September and discuss activities scheduled to take place in the youth centre.
  • As a member of network ‘Promoting Positive’ Svitac (Firefly) representatives attended the meeting in Vitez, BiH. 31 organisations were present and the main aim of the event was to gather representatives of all networks across the country in order to exchange experiences and potentially agree on future co-operation and joint activities. The first joint activity was celebration of the International Peace Day, which was held in Brcko on 21st September.
  • Edina Vosanovic was attending, as Svitac (Firefly) representative, training for Youth workers in Sarajevo organized by Institute for Youth development KULT. This time the training was about social competencies and public advocacy.
