HIGHLIGHTS ON MONTH’S ACTIVITIES

  • This month the weather improved and therefore we have had more and more children turning up to workshops which have been great to see. Svitac (Firefly) said goodbye to Sally Yates, the great supporter of Svitac (Firefly) everyday work and music camp 2015 by making postcards and posters and expressing their thoughts and thankfulness. Our volunteers, Monica and Eleonore, finished their tolerance project report. The findings from their research project were really positive, the presentation they held went really well, they got great feedback and comments from everyone and the discussions they had afterward seemed to be really useful and will hopefully have a positive impact on Svitac (Firefly). International volunteers have been doing a lot of different daily activities and they focused on different things (fundraising, promotion of the organization through social media etc.).
  • About 118 participants regularly attended Svitac’s (Firefly’s) activities in February, reconfirming their popularity in our small Brcko District community. Participants were aged between 4 and 40 years old. The youngest and the oldest participants attended Culture and Art Diversity around the World workshops and English/German workshops for adults.
    • Younger group – They made lunch box for healthy and unhealthy foods (fruits, vegetables, sweets, dairy products), small versions of their body with body parts, kites and board with weather indicators. They also learned a lot of new words in English related to weather and health. Highlights with the younger group were Spanish workshops and Argentinian culture lessons prepared by our international volunteer Eduardo.
    • Older group – They made a model of a life-size body with internal organs, dioramas and did paper crafting. In the Language Workshops, the group did words related to weather and weather conditions, health and healthy way of life, body parts and internal organs. In the Music Workshops the group learned new songs in English and local languages related to health, body and healthy way of life. They also learned about rhythm and rhythmic music, and repeated some old songs.

EVS, WELTWARTS AND OTHER VOLUNTEERS’ PROGRAMMES

  • In February, Svitac (Firefly) very much appreciated collaborating with 8 international volunteers: one ‘Weltwearts’ volunteer from Germany, five EVS volunteers from the UK and Turkey and two self-funded volunteers from Australia and Argentina.
  • Sending EVS – Two volunteers from Bosnia doing their EVS service in Cyprus (9 months) and Lithuania (12 months).
  • Visa process has been finished for 1 self-funded volunteer from Australia.

MEETINGS and PRESENTATIONS

  • Svitac (Firefly) representatives continued to attend regular monthly meetings with the youth centre coordinator and the other NGOs based in Brcko. The purpose of the last meeting was to share information about activities and plans for February and discuss activities scheduled to take place in the youth centre.
