HIGHLIGHTS ON MONTH’S ACTIVITIES

  • This month was rainy and cold, but it did not affect the attendance of the activity. Margot Coles, the Firefly International’s Chair of Trustees, visited Svitac (Firefly Bosnia) and spent a day with the participants, volunteers and staff. The arrival of a new international volunteer brought new energy and contribution to daily activities. International volunteers have also been doing a lot of different daily activities and they focused on different things (fundraising, promotion of the organization through social media etc.).
  • About 139 participants regularly attended Svitac’s (Firefly Bosnia’s) activities in May. Participants were aged between 4 and 40 years old. The youngest and the oldest participants attended Culture and Art Diversity around the World workshops and English/German workshops for adults.
    • Younger group – They made a binoculars of cardboard, flip flops, the 3D model of the town and birds in the nest from the colour paper. They learned to write and pronounce letters H and I in local languages, maths and new words in English and German related to the stories of “The Sword of Peace” and “The Cat in Boots”. In the Music Workshops they repeated the songs they learned in previous months. The group also had the opportunity to play together on various percussions and acoustic instruments. Highlight with the younger group was when they learned a phrase “I choose to follow peace”.
    • Older group – They made new decorations for the youth centre. In the Language Workshops, the group learned new words related to seasons, food, family, peace, tolerance and practiced small talk in English, German and Spanish. In the Music Workshops the group was learning piano notes using a free app on android phone called “Simply piano” and learned how to play chords on the piano. The participants played a lot of volleyball, basketball and team spirit games. The highlight with the older group was a workshop related to World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development when they had the opportunity to watch the program that represented diverse cultures from the local community as well as Chinese culture.

EVS/ESC, WELTWARTS AND OTHER VOLUNTEERS’ PROGRAMMES

  • In May, Svitac (Firefly Bosnia) very much appreciated collaborating with 4 international volunteers: two ‘Weltwärts’ volunteers from Germany, one EVS/ESC volunteer from Germany and one Omprakash volunteer from USA.
  • Visa process has been started for one volunteer from USA.
  • Sending EVS/ESC and ‘Weltwärts’ – Three volunteers from Bosnia are doing their EVS/ESC and ‘Weltwärts’ service in Germany (2 and 12 months).

MEETINGS and PRESENTATIONS

  • Svitac’s (Firefly Bosnia’s) representatives continued to attend regular monthly meetings with the youth centre coordinator and the other NGOs based in Brčko. The purpose of the last meeting was to share information about activities and plans for May and discuss activities scheduled to take place in the Youth Centre.
  • Svitac’s (Firefly Bosnia’s) staff participated in the online focus group “Strategic analysis of the Erasmus+ Programme and the European Solidarity Corps in the Western Balkan Partner Countries”. The main aim of this meeting was to connect organisations that were active in different roles and different capacities of the Erasmus + program over the past three years in order to share different experiences and the level of their participation in the program.
  • Svitac (Firefly Bosnia) as a member of the network “Promote Positive” participated in the preparation of activities entitled “World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development” held on 21st May in the City Square and City Hall of Brčko District of BiH.
