My volunteering at Svitac (Firefly Bosnia)

This was a very interesting experience for me. I had a chance to work side by side with international and local volunteers, as well as with Svitac’s (Firefly’s) staff.

Meeting the Svitac’s (Firefly’s) staff and the local volunteers, provided me with a very useful insight into Bosnian society.

The project is about community-building and peace-building, and most activities were specifically designed in this sense. I really appreciated the staff’s availability and kindness, as well as their commitment to include volunteers in designing daily activities.

Tips for future volunteers:

  • Don’t be afraid to ask when you’re uncertain about something!
  • Have a non-judgemental approach (Bosnian society and recent history are very complicated and, in a way, problematic)!
  • Bring your own creativity and enthusiasm!
