International Day of Non-Violence

International Day of Non-Violence, October 2nd is celebrated on the day of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, one of the initiators of the philosophy and strategy of nonviolent resistance.

Svitac (Firefly Bosnia) held a workshop with the aim to promote the importance of the International Day of Non-Violence and the importance of respect and cultural diversity. In order to educate children and young people to break with prejudice and stereotypes towards their peers, as well as promote peaceful and non-violent conflict resolution

The participants had the opportunity to hear about certain problematic situations adapted to their age, they were asked how they would react. The goal of the conversation was to point the idea to the children to resolve the conflicts in a non-violent way with conversations and peaceful ideas. In the second part, participants had the opportunity to hear a song “I have got peace in my heart” performed by our international volunteers Lydia and Lana.

All activities were held on the premises of the Youth Centre in Brčko District.
