International Day of Democracy
On the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, nominated by the UN General Assembly in 2007 as the Day for the Fight for Democratic Ideals, which is celebrated on the 15th September, Omladinska organizacija Svitac (Firefly) organized creative workshops attended by two groups of participants. The goal of the workshops was to promote the importance of equality and teamwork.
The younger participants (age 4-6) had an interactive game with balls and a discussion adapted to their age on the subject of democracy. They also colored a worksheet with a picture of forest animals, which spend time playing together.
The second group, aged 8+, had a game with voting, using balls, and then watched the cartoon “Animal Farm” (George Orwell 1954), discussing democracy and giving their thoughts on the movie. At the end of the workshop they worked on a poster, painted with their hands, to show diversity.
All activities were held on the premises of the Youth Centre in Brčko District.
