International Day against Fascism and Antisemitism
International Day against Fascism and Anti-Semitism is celebrated every year on November 9th across Europe. Svitac (Firefly Bosnia) marked this date with three activities. Participants of the first group of 4-6 years old had the opportunity to watch a puppet show prepared by local and international volunteers. The play presented an example of fascism/intolerance that was adapted to the age of the participants, and working and pedagogical methods were applied according to their age. On the creative part of the workshop, participants painted a worksheet with the message “We all laugh in the same language”.
Participants in the second workshop for ages 14+ discussed the topic “Manipulative use of language in Donald Trump’s Tweets.” Young people had the opportunity to learn more about the manipulation of language as a political instrument, populism and hate speech. After a short video about Donald Trump’s Tweets, participants were given two blank “Tweet windows” to write positive messages of peace on their own.
Members of the Samba Percussion Music Workshop also marked the International Day against Fascism and Anti-Semitism with an interactive workshop to discuss the significance of the importance of this date (“Crystal Night – pogrom of the Jewish people during Nazi Germany), and the presence of fascism through various social segments in the present society. The group also did a cover song on “Ay Carmela” – a famous fight song by the Republican Army from the Spanish War.
The workshops were held at the premises of the Youth Centre Brcko District.
