European Day of Languages 2024

European Day of Languages is an initiative to promote language learning, launched by the Council of Europe in 2001 in cooperation with the European Commission. Since then, this day has been celebrated throughout Europe every year on September 26th.

Svitac (Firefly in Bosnia) celebrated European Day of Languages with students from the 6th and 8th grades of the First Elementary School Brezik, in Brčko district BiH, speaking in English and listening to music in Turkish and German chosen by our international volunteers Ada, Paula, Canan, and Alp. The volunteers and the students chose keywords from the songs and made a poster with the words in different languages. This was an extraordinary opportunity for students and international volunteers to meet and exchange experiences learning foreign languages and find similarities in German, English, Turkish, and B/H/S languages.

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head.
If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart” by Nelson Mandela.
