Bojan Josic EVS Experience in the Netherlands

Volunteering at the Don Bosco Vakantiebos 2014 was, without a shred of doubt, one of the greatest experiences of my life. I spent a month in Rijswijk, The Netherlands working in a youth center along with young people from over ten other European countries. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity that taught me so much about myself, my surroundings and the world itself.

The entire program was extremely well made, with daily activities that ranged from organised road trips, bike tours, beach picnics, taking every care of a household that hosted more than 20 people (!), to preparing and executing different activities on weekdays for the kids at the center. We had an average of 40 kids every day, so this meant there was no time to be bored. The youth center, our “workplace” was the source of some of the best moments, because we always had fun games and events to keep the kids (and us, too) entertained, educated and motivated.

I look back on my Vakantiebos short–term EVS placement as a marvelous experience that has given me many new experiences and views on life. Ever since I came back, I always like to think that I brought back with me bits and pieces of Dutch, Spanish, Austrian, Norwegian, Finnish, Georgian, Portuguese and every other culture that was present there, and that I’ve left a little piece of my own in exchange.
